K Ganesh Kumar roots for Andheri
Andherieast.Com has a very industry-based site but amongst others has a page
detailing each school, phone numbers and the name of t he principal.
Chembur.com
has lots of links to cultural websites
For K Ganesh Kumar, a member of Fine Arts Society, the idea behind Chembur.com came about eight years ago as a result of the then –booming dotcom business and his extensive travels. Through that, the individualistic idiosyncrasies of Chembur have now been realised in its very favoured website. Not content with that, Chembur.com realised the potential of a united effort when their discussion boards were inundated with emails from residents discussing a project that the Tatas wanted to set up in the area. Eventually the matter died down and the Tatas withdrew from the scene but website provided a platform for locals to voice their fears and discuss pros and cons of the project. And having succeeded with that, Kumar launched andherieast.com, his place of work.
Says, Kumar, "I work in Andheri, and I am the secretary of the Mahal industrial area, so I thought having built one site that was very individualistic for Chembur, I would build another that was more oriented towards industry. I wanted to create. Something that told the story of the neighborhood."
Stemming from local initiative and passion, information and photographs are often key components in these websites. Listing for crèches, schools, florists and chemists are useful. For those having just moved into the area. Chembur.com has put up SSC results on its site and some like mycufiegarade.com show pictures of the locality's Bollywoodesque gardens, while shivajipark.com details the area's fascinating history. For instance, did you know that Dadar means 'Staircase' in Marathi? Initially, the route between the somewhat high Mahim Island to the Lower Parel area was a pedestrian 'staircase' and hence the term Dadar'.
