| IN A move aimed at
promoting start-up infotech ventures in the state, the Maharashtra government today
announced the formation of Samruddhi venture park. The project aims to provide assistance
to all such ventures under one roof.Suhas Patil, Chairman of Tufan infotech, will be
the president of the project while Ashok Desai of Mastek, Pathek from lIT Powai and Harish
Mehta of The lndus Enterprise (TiE) will be governing council members. Maharashtra chief
minister Vilasarao Deshmuch announced the venture park will initially be based at
Samruddhi building, the headquarters of the Maharashtra Industrial Develment Corporation
(MIDC) at Andheri in Munibai.
Mr Deshmukh was
speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day conference TIECON INDIA 2000 organised by
TIE and Nasscom. He assured the IT community that the state is fully geared to provide
infrastructure to entrepreneurs keen on investing in the state.
The project will
host a number of new IT projects. Tufan Infotech, has purchased 27,000 sq.ft at the
venture park.
Nasscom and TIE
will also have their offices at the park. The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI)
will have a centre at the building that will be provided with an independent earth station
for quicker connectivity.
Mr Deshmukh also
announced that in next three years all state government employees will be computer
literate.
From 03 it
will be mandatory for government employees to be a computer literate, he said. Dewang
Mehta, president Nasscom, said about 76 per cent of the total transactions on the Internet
in India are being carried out
